The power of resurrection.
The crucifixion and resurrection of Yahshua Messiah are the two events in world history that has an impact on people all over the world. Perhaps no other events have also been so controversial. In spite of the empty tomb which is proof of his resurrection, people still continue to treat his resurrection as a myth, a story fabricated by the disciples!
The death and resurrection of Yahshua Messiah is mentioned by all the four gospel writers. All four end their gospels with the resurrection of Yahshua.
“1Cor.15:13-14: But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.” The resurrection of Messiah is the basis of our faith. Rom.10:9 says, ‘That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.’
The Greek word used in I Pet.3:3 for resurrection is “anastasis”, which means standing up. Imagine Yahshua ‘standing up’ in the tomb, alive again, and walking out! The very idea makes our heart to beat faster! If He has the power to rise up, imagine the power that he gives to us, when we believe in his resurrection. Here are some of the benefits or blessings, of the resurrection.
Power of the cross leads to salvation: Before He was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus promised: “Because I live you will live also” (John 14:19). The key to the Kingdom of God promised in the gospel message is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If it weren’t for Christ’s resurrection, there would be no Kingdom of God to come. Jesus Christ is God’s only plan of eternal salvation for the entire world. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
The gift of eternal salvation is a free gift given by God to all those who will believe on Jesus and what His death on the cross really means for all of us (Ephesians 2:8)).
Declared to be the son of God: His death and resurrection support His claim that He was the Son of God and the Son of man. Jesus, during His earthly ministry, often referred to Himself these two ways. Jesus was both God and man. It is wrong to believe that Jesus was only divine or only man. He was hundred percent both. It is natural for human beings to die, but to be resurrected after death is not for man, it is only God who can do this. If Jesus were only human, He wouldn’t have been resurrected.
Power to forgive sins: Eph.1:7,”In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; “We have been redeemed. Messiah has paid the price for us on the cross and set us free from the power of the devil. Our sins are forgiven by the riches of His grace, all kinds of sin, its’ influence and consequences are forgiven. The night before He was crucified, Messiah shared a meal with His disciples and He took the cup, and when He had blessed it, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matt.26:28)
Power to heal, miracles: Pilate ordered Jesus to be scourged , and then turned Him over to the Roman soldiers to crucify Him (Matt 27:26; Mark 15:15; John 19:1). The scourging of Jesus was a fulfillment of the scriptures. The stripes that Jesus received are not in vain. They were for our healing. Jesus didn’t die only for the forgiveness of our sins. By His stripes, we were healed. He suffered so that we may be healed.
Intercedes for us: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:17. Although Christ’s work to secure the salvation of the elect was completed on the cross, as displayed when he cried “It is finished!” (John 19:30), His care for His children will never be finished. Jesus is the Advocate for Christians, meaning He is our great Defender. This is the intercessory role He currently fulfills for those who are His (1 John 2:1). Jesus is always pleading our case before the Father, like a defense lawyer on our behalf.
Gives power of the Holy Spirit..Acts1:8. During His earthly ministry, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit, led by the Spirit, and empowered by the Spirit to perform miracles. After Jesus had ascended to heaven, the Spirit equipped the apostles to perform miracles, too. All those who put their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately and permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11) His power leads us, convicts us, teaches us, and equips us to do His work and spread the gospel.
Gives power to destroy evil:. In Rev.12:11, we read about the saints how they overcame the devil by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Our righteousness are as filthy rags (Isa.64:6), but because of Messiah’s righteousness we are able to stand against the devil. We not only have fellowship with Yahshua but also have power to overcome the devil.
Power to live again: new bodies: 2Cor. “5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The phrase to “be in Christ,” means to be united with Christ by faith; faith in the death and resurrection of Christ. It is impossible for a man to profess unity with Christ if he has not Christ in him. A genuine Christian with Christ dwelling in him, is a new creation. ‘Behold, I make all things new’ he said. He has made a new man , a spiritual new man, in us. There is a new course of life, both of faith and holiness; a new way of serving God through Christ by the Spirit, new companions are sought after, new riches, honours, glory, can be expected by the new man.
Resurrect as he was resurrected: Jesus’ resurrection gives believers the assurance that there will be resurrection of the dead and the Christian faith and preaching are not useless. Jesus is described as the firstborn from the dead (Col 1:18). His resurrection confirms that death is not the end of everything on earth. There is resurrection after death. The saints, who were dead as at the time the rapture will take place, will resurrect and together with the living saints will be caught up with Him in the sky (1Thess 4:17-18). The death and resurrection of Jesus give believers victory over death. Though we may die, we have the hope of resurrection. Death is a transition to another life – eternity. Then, our mortal bodies will be transformed to immortal bodies.
The greatest news in this world is the death and resurrection of Yahshua Messiah. When we believe in this fact, all the benefits, blessings and power of the resurrection will be ours!
